The portraits are created on the basis of photos and conversations
Here they are: the church authorities, some of whom are only now beginning to grasp the damage they caused, and the victims who found their voices. There are also figures that stand apart from the subject —an unexpected absurdity offering a brief space to breathe. The portraits are not meant as realistic depictions. They came into being in paint, often forceful and uncontrolled. They are never flattering — that was not my intention.

Painting and collage work in 40x60 format, of which I am making a book. "History" (40x30) is the history of my paintings, so that later I can browse back in the retirement home without the ballast of all the canvases. There will be plenty of darlings to kill, but these can go along.

My dolls are not toys. They are reincarnated remnants of glass, ceramic, and porcelain. I tear the heads from their former lives and build something new around them. They still smile, but they remember what they’ve been through.
